All of our dogs are bred and trained with the sole purpose of producing top performing assistance, scent detection and specialist support roles. It is extremely rare that any of our pups are unable to work in any of these fields, and so it’s not often that we have companion dogs available. The dogs we have settled into homes as companions are always adult dogs who are unable to be retained for a new field after their original service ends.

If you are still looking for a companion puppy to join your family, we do offer the following advice to consider when choosing the right pup for your family, and your lifestyle:

  • Do not ‘gift’ a puppy for Christmas or a Birthday without knowing that you’re bringing in an animal that will be with you for the rest of their life.

  • Ask yourself why you want a Labrador puppy as opposed to other breeds. Make sure you do lots of research before you commit.

  • What do you want to be able to do with your dog? Companionship, Assistance dog, obedience, show dog, couch potato?

  • Are you committed to the ongoing training and work needed to create a responsible family companion who you’re proud to own and who lives harmoniously with your family and fits with your lifestyle?

  • Does your whole family understand this work and are they committed to help raise your puppy?

  • Are your children education about how to behave around a dog? If not we recommend looking up Pet Town, a learning tool to assist children in grade levels K-2 in responsible pet ownership and dog safety. https://www.pets.nsw.gov.au/

  • Do you have good secure fencing, weatherproof housing outside plus a crate inside? Are you aware of the community and local council requirements of owning a dog and the other financial commitments, vaccinations, worming, fleas, etc?

  • Are you prepared to love and care for this puppy for life - to be ready to unconditionally love him or her, value the faith, loyalty and acceptance a dog offers and in return honour and nurture them until they pass away in old age?

If you’ve done as much research as you can, and you’re convinced we’re the right breeders for your future dog, you can apply to our waitlist on RightPaw.
